Three men set out to find the "privee theef" known as death who has killed atleast a thousand including their friend. They
set out to avenge them and kill Death. They were told that they would find Death under the Oak tree where they finds gold
and forgets about Death. They decided to rest and take gold away in the morning. One of them was sent to buy wine while the
others rest. The two plots to stab the other on his return, while he planned to poison the wine and kill the others. He came
back, got stabbed to Death and the others met a slow Death drinking the poisoned wine he brought. And they have all found what
they had searched for.
This is the story line of Geoffrey Chaucer's "Pardoner's Tale" included in his "Canterbury Tales". Possibly inspired
from this as she once told, British author Joanne Kathleen Rowling carved out the three brothers of Peverell family who cheats death andgot rewarded with the very famous "Deathly Hallows" whose combined possession would make one the "Master of Death".
